I recently discovered the work of italian Photographer Massimo Vitali and his famous beach series. I was fascinated in an instant. He started his series in 1995 and has since then portrayed the world with his special approach. What he wants to show are:
The inner conditions and disturbances of normality: it’s cosmetic fakery, sexual innuendo, commodified leisure, deluded sense of affluence, and rigid conformism.
What captivates one as to these images? Is it a bit, that you could also see yourself lying there? Being at the beach or at a pool – many of us love that so much. But Massimo Vitali shows us as the other side of the beach reality. His pictures are scary and beautiful at the same time. You’ll find more of his portfolio on his webpage.
